Veena Malik knows what Veena Malik is thinking.
Unless you live under a rock, you are undoubtedly following news of the increasingly intensified protests in Egypt today (my recommendation is to watch Al Jazeera English and/or to follow the #jan25 on Twitter), as citizens continue to rally and challenge the autocratic regime of Hosni Mubarak. The demonstrations sparked not long after protests in Tunisia toppled the state’s leader “and encouraged protesters [across the Arab world] to overcome deep-rooted fears of their autocratic leaders and take to the streets,” reported the NY Times.
However, if you do need a break from the news, I have a little Friday treat for you. DJ Shahrukh has remixed the greatness that was Veena Malik‘s debate with Mufti Abdul on Express News’ Frontline show. If you missed that show, here is a link to the entire debate, in which both Mufti and the host Kamran Shahid attempt to malign Malik’s character and reputation based on her stint on the Indian reality competition, Big Boss, insisting she brought shame to Islam, Pakistan, and our culture, [also see Sana Saleem's blog post on the issue].
Veena Malik impressed us all with her responses on the show, rightly calling out the mullah for slandering her instead of focusing his attention on the politicians, terrorists, and others who are guilty of much more, who have actually harmed the country. In a more recent Frontline, she also took on Lollywood director Syed Noor, challenging sexist and narrow definitions of “culture” in Pakistani society.
Hats off to Veena Malik. She may refer to herself in third person, but she is fearless. This remix has been making the rounds in the blogosphere/Facebook news feeds, but it’s catchy and highlights the awesomeness of the debate. Mufti Sahib, you got served. And, in case you wondered whether this CHUP blogger could relate Veena to the Egypt developments, Twitter friend @humaimtiaz did it for me when she said, “What Egypt needs: Veena Malik saying “Mubarak sahib, yeh kia baat hui.”
Mufti sahib!:

I loved this season of Bigg Boss and am obsessed with all of Veena Malik’s interviews (especially the remix). Personally, I was a little shocked by her behavior on the show and she is definitely denying some of things she did. However, if anyone has a problem with her (including myself), the solution is to turn the damn TV off.
No one has the right to issue fatwas, call her a bad muslim/pakistani, or humiliate her. I’m glad she stood up to the agar magar Mufti Sahib.
Ps. Khoobsoorat lagna Veena Malik ka haq hai.
[...] Viva La Veena Malik [...]
The sad fact is that she even HAD to appear on a show to defend her self. I don’t know what she did or didn’t do in the show (don’t even know what the show is about) but seriously, why is this anyone’s business? She stood strong and defended her self very bravely and intelligently – good for her!
Yes this dj thing is epic. but u oversold it by mentioning the egyptian thing in the begining. im sure all of us would love to read something well written on the egyptian situation and HOW WE CAN EMULATE THAT IN OUR LAND OF THE PURE.
but badshah piece anyways.
The Apostle of Allah,Peace be upon Him, said:
Who doesn’t value Our Person of Knowledge of Islam, who isn’t merciful upon Our young, who doesn’t respect Our elder, he is not a part of my Ummah,
Notice the emphasis on ‘Our’.
According to you she is not a “muslim”. So what?
According to her she is. That is what matters.
Will you tell the to the mullah who rapes the kids he teaches and those who come on tv to preach hate to ‘our’ kids? and to get them to blow themselves up in ‘our’ bazaars?
Notice the emphasis on ‘Our’.
Ok, I just read Sana Saleem’s article about this after reading this one.
The comments on that post have left such a vile taste in my mouth with regards to the absolute stupidity and low IQs prominently on display.
Pakistan has made a joke out of Islam, make no mistake about it. Forget the actual meaning and point of this religion, it’s like the only currency Pakistanis trade on is IslamBucks- the more you polish your image of being a good Muslim (mostly by attacking, slandering, judging, and accusing others) the more IslamBucks you have. It’s despicable and ridiculous and the level of stupidity makes my head spin.
Why are so many Pakistani men so obsessed by the purity of Pakistani/Muslim women? ‘Muslim girls should behave’, ‘Islamic hayah’- comments such these seem to infer that Islamic standards for modesty and hayah apply only to women.
Um…hello…the call for modesty and chastity apply to both women AND men. Pick up a Quran lately? Hence the idea of hypocrisy running rampant. Why do these maulvis/muftis/idiots focus so much on women? Are women meant to bear the burden of collective Pakistani sin? Do you people not get how this flies in the face of individual responsibility in the Eyes of your Lord?
Are you stupid?
The really big issue with reading the comments on that post was just how stupid people are not to understand this. Running after women for things God will hold them accountable for when the entire nation as a whole is commiting sin after grevious sin just makes you look extremely, extremely stupid.
For the people that say Veena Malik represented Pakistan badly-good. She represented Pakistan as how it is. Where anyone will sell any part of themselves for fame or money or whatever. Very correctly represented, I would say. It’s a poor country where rich, immoral people do all sorts of immoral and disgusting things in private and public, where immorality has swept into every class, caste, and people. It’s a place where it’s okay to rape or harrass or degrade a woman, that’s okay, but God help us if she makes us look bad.
Pakistan is a place obsessed with appearance and artifice, like a spray of Febreeze is going to make the garbage dump of our society simply melt away. And God has revealed the inner rot of Pakistani society to the world, make no mistake abou it. The only people not in on this are Pakistanis.
Seriously Islam should be banned in Pakistan- I have never seen a people deserve it less or mutilate it more.
I am really shocked to see muslims in favor of veena. We muslims have gone far away from Islam and Sunnah of our beloved Holy Prophet S.A.W. and his saying. What is going on in this world and what bad things are here and there? all are discussed on media. I just request you all to respect Islam and Prophet’s sayings and dont make the life of your own choices if you belong to Deen-e-Islam. If we are unable to abstain ourselves from sins then at least accept these are the sins which are not accepted before Allah or the Prophet S.A.W. not at all. See the life of Prophet and his companions and compare you with them then you will assess where you stand.
Dear All Muslims, please open your eyes and try to perform goods deeds and if not then at least protest for sins. Bad deeds are bad deeds, never be converted into good by your thought only. If bear is impermissible can never be allowable till the dooms day. This WORLD is mortal and soonest you will die and will have to present before HIM and answerable. DOnt forget please and this is muslims’ belief.
Dear ORB,
I beleive before we point out other’s sins, we have to be spotless ourselves.
Before protesting other’s sins, make sure you’re sinless. Is Veena the only sinner in Pakistan? Or is Mr./Ms. ORB sinless? Bring out your own sins in public, and let’s debate them first.
Someone who sins, cannot point out to somebody else and call her a sinner – that would be hypocracy. And stop preaching about ISLAM and the Prophet, because when sinful people preach a religion
Starting from Egypt, you took it to Veena Malik. Isnt she receiving too much attention than she deserves?
Love the remix… allthe holy doly peeps… get over yourselves please!!!
Loved this one from the actual You tube page…
Go condemn the rapist, murders, thieves, liars, hate preachers and terrorists… leave alone the celebrities and their light dramas, tiny dresses, and love stories. Only God can judge them, it’s not your place to condemn someone who hasn’t broken any laws.
God gifted every human with choice. It is not your place to take it away….
Veena Malik is the only MAN in Pakistan!
Pakistani Society is getting divided rapidly in Roshan Khayals are religious which is really dangerous.
What an epic remix! awesomeness in motion. I have become a Veena fan overnight.
On a more sober note, I must confess a certain frustration with the maulvis in Pakistan. They are quick to condemn Veena making out with Ashmit Patel on a reality show, calling her a symbol of Pakistani women and of Islam.
Yet when random Pakistani men are implicated and proven guilty in plots to kill people in other countries, or massacre large numbers of people in Pakistan itself, they offer calibrated hand-wringing, toothless anodyne.
Sad.
My name is Zulfiquar. I am the grandson of Abdul Muhit, who is the cousin of Abdul Matin (Jinnah Bhais Lieutenant). I am on a quest to find out our familys history. Also am trying to raise the funds to visit our Nan in Dhaka to also document our part in our history. So I guess you and I are cousins on the same quest. I will be very greatful if you could get in touch. Take care Salam.
